How to download Samsung firmware
Samsung has no public download page for full firmware packages, but its update servers hand them out to anyone who asks with a model number and a region code. Two free, open-source tools do exactly that – and are the same source most paid "firmware sites" use behind the scenes.
1. Find your model number and region (CSC)
- Model: Settings › About phone shows it as
SM-…(for exampleSM-A546B). The letter after the digits matters:SM-A546B(Europe) andSM-A546E(Asia/Latin America) get different firmware. - Region: Settings › About phone › Software information › Service provider software version.
The three-letter code on the second line is your CSC, e.g.
EUXorDBT. See the list of region codes.
Then look up your model on Firmware Index to see which builds exist for your region and whether Samsung still serves the file.
2a. Graphical tool: Bifrost (Windows, macOS, Linux)
Bifrost is a free, MIT-licensed desktop app. Enter model and region, press Check for updates, then Download. It decrypts the file automatically.
2b. Command line: samloader
samloader (Apache-2.0) downloads with several parallel connections and decrypts on the fly. Prebuilt binaries for Windows, macOS and Linux are on its release page.
# list all versions Samsung offers for a model/region
samloader check-update -m SM-A546B -r EUX -a
# download the latest build
samloader download -m SM-A546B -r EUX
# download a specific build (full PDA/CSC/MODEM string from our region pages)
samloader download -m SM-A546B -r EUX -v A546BXXUNGZJ5/A546BOXMNGZJ5/A546BXXUNGZJ5
Good to know
- Full firmware packages are large: usually 5–12 GB for current phones.
- Samsung removes older builds from its servers over time. Our tables mark those as pulled.
- Only flash firmware for your exact model number. Region (CSC) can usually differ within the same model, but never the model letter.
- Before flashing an older build, check the bootloader bit.
Next step: how to flash the firmware.
